Rouh

Open source ยท not released yet

A personal AI assistant you run yourself.

You talk to Rouh and it answers out loud. It puts anything worth reading on a screen beside you, keeps your work in order, does longer jobs in the background, and asks before it does anything that matters. We are getting it ready to release as open source.

What it does

Rouh is one assistant for one person, on a web page you open on your computer or your phone. It runs on a machine you control.

Talks and listens

Press once and speak. It hears you while you are still talking and answers out loud, in English or Bulgarian. You can type instead.

Shows, rather than recites

Tables, numbers, charts, code and whole pages go on a canvas beside the conversation, where you can read them, instead of being read out.

Works in the background

Longer work, such as research, writing or changing code, goes to a background job run by a coding agent you install and sign in to yourself. You can watch it, and it reports back when it is done.

Keeps your work in order

Projects, tasks and steps, each with its notes and results, so a conversation always belongs somewhere and can be found again.

Mail and calendar, with your permission

Connected to your own Google account, it finds, summarises and drafts. It does not send anything to anyone without your yes.

Remembers

One memory across your conversations, contacts, calendar and mail, so it can answer from what it has seen and say where it saw it.

Asks first

Anything that sends a message, publishes, pays or cannot be undone waits for your decision. A login, a code or a payment is handed to you, in a browser you can watch and take over.

Improves itself, with you deciding

Tell it what should work differently. It writes the change and tests it before the change reaches your copy.

This is what Rouh does today, on the copy it was built on. The first public release will contain what is ready and safe to share, and will say exactly what that is.

Genes

Each of Rouh's abilities, such as its decisions, its reminders and its memory, is called a gene. Every gene is declared in one small manifest that says what it is, where it appears and what it touches, and Rouh lists its abilities from those manifests alone.

The intent is that genes can be shared between Rouhs, with each Rouh growing its own copy. Sharing genes, and the review that sharing would need, are not built yet.

Open source, done carefully

The plan is to publish Rouh itself, so anyone can read it, run it and change it.

  • The assistant, not a demo. The software that runs Rouh, released as a whole.
  • A clean start. The public version is a fresh, generic build. It carries nobody's personal data, accounts or private projects.
  • Security first. Known problems are fixed before anything is published.
  • Run by its contributors. A core team of maintainers will review and approve changes, with open rules for how people join it. No single person approves everything.
  • A home of its own. Rouh will have its own non-profit foundation to look after the project and its name.

Coming with the release

How it will install

Rouh is not released yet, so there is nothing to install today. The plan is a self-hosted install: you run Rouh on a machine of your own, and the coding agents that do its background work are ones you install and sign in to yourself.

How it will be packaged, and which systems it will run on, is still being worked out, so none of the details here are final.

Where it stands

Not released yet

There is no date. Rouh will be released when the clean build, the security work and the foundation are ready, and not before.

Experimental

Rouh is a working assistant in daily use, but it is not a finished product. Do not rely on it for anything you cannot afford to lose.

If you would like to contribute, review the code before it is released, or simply hear when it is out, write to us. We will not add you to a mailing list without asking.
